Do we give out of guilt or out of joy? Does it make a difference? As long as we’re giving, does it matter what emotion that intent is coming from? Yes, in fact, it does.
I’m Ronsley Vaz. This uniquely produced audio docuseries follows me and my guests from all walks of life. We examine world events and break down the reactions and responses to them from business-minded people. Then, together we go inside and unravel the inner workings of the mind of entrepreneurs, artists, athletes and academics. Our goal is to answer the question, “What is the psychology of our decisions?”.
If you are an entrepreneur or would like to explore the entrepreneurial mindset, this is the podcast for you.
Paul is the co-founder, along with Masami Sato, of B1G1, which stands for Buy 1 Give 1. This amazing company is both a social enterprise and a non-profit organisation. Its mission, and the reason Paul is so passionate about it, is to create a world full of giving. Although it’s not the first of its kind, it is set up differently than others. B1G1 specifically helps small and medium-sized businesses achieve a significant social impact by embedding giving activities into everyday business operations. Every single business transaction, even one as little as one cent, can bring joy and a better quality of life to someone in the world.
In this volume, Paul and I discuss the intent behind giving and why it’s important to acknowledge that giving is essentially self-serving. But there’s nothing wrong with that. Bringing joy to your own life while simultaneously bringing it to the life of another is not selfish. It’s fuel to give again. And isn’t that what we need in this world, especially now? To give joy?
Paul goes into depth on how his company works and the vision he has for its future. We discuss the concept of “the birth lottery”, and how this has fueled Paul’s ambition for companies that make a difference. And he explains how giving helps you become the best version of yourself. This is definitely a volume that will give you the warmth and fuzzies. And hopefully, inspire you to incorporate giving into your entrepreneurial journey.
